Natural products are an extraordinary source of chemical diversity and are an ideal starting point for most screening programs for pharmacologically active small molecules. Historically, natural products have been the most successful source for new drug discovery.
HDB owns an extensive collection of TCM-derived natural products and their fractionations with various therapeutic areas such as anti-tumor, anti-hypertension and CNS, etc. Over 1000 herbal products are fractionated with HPLC and stored at 96-well format enabling high throughput screening. The products are available for licensing to our partners and for sale to our customers. We also provide services to screen and identify hits as active single component for targeted therapeutic area (TA) according to clients’ interests.
Herbs and Herbal Extracts
Chinese herbs have long been used in the practice of traditional Chinese medicine. Many of them have been shown to be effective in treatment. It is widely believed that these natural herbs provide rich resources for drug hits and leads. At present, HDB has over a thousand Chinese herbal extracts in collection. All of the herb extracts have been verified and sorted by top specialists and professors from the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Detailed information regarding each herbal extract, such as production area, Latin genus name, characteristics, and main chemical ingredients, is well marked with the products .
The herbal extracts were prepared using our own proprietary techniques, and production can be further increased according to the requirement of the clients. More than a thousand herbal extracts are in stock in lyophilized powder.
Natural Compound Library
At HDB, modern chemistry approaches have been applied to the preparation of natural products. The herbal extracts were fractionated using HPLC. A standard and time-based sixteen fractionations were collected for each extract. The collected samples were lyophilized and stored in 96-well sample plates and are ready for high-throughput screening. The samples are well-managed under our in-house database. Therapeutic Focused Libraries
Based on pharmacology and the theories of traditional Chinese medicine, HDB has classified all herbs and sorted the extracts and fractionated samples into twelve therapeutic focused libraries that facilitate the screening for various interests. The number of samples in each focused library varies from eight hundred to up to two thousands. These focused libraries are listed as follows:

Lead Identification
HDB offers services to HTS client-interested targets against our enriched fractionated natural product library, hit confirmation including dose-responses, activity guided single component identification and isolation of mg level of compounds for structure elucidation. We could run IC50 dose responsive curves for single components, and then synthesize once compounds have been identified. The whole SAR process would be followed once activities of identified compounds have been confirmed in such processes.
